Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Obiyeome, has generated online discussion after issuing strict guidelines for conduct during church services.

A video that went viral on X (formerly Twitter) shows the pastor warning members not to chew gum, drink water, or use mobile phones while worshiping, emphasizing that congregants must demonstrate proper reverence inside the church auditorium.

“Don’t chew gum when you’re in church, you’re not a goat. Don’t drink water in church. If you want to drink water, go outside. Don’t use phone at all in church. This is not a Pentecostal church, only Pentecostal churches allow water inside church,” he said.

Pastor Obiyeome explained that the church is a sacred place that should not be treated casually, adding that certain behaviours commonly observed during services are disrespectful.

His remarks have prompted mixed reactions online. Some users support the call for discipline in church, while others consider the rules overly restrictive.

Commenters expressed a range of opinions. One user wrote, “He made his point, but the delivery wasn’t right.” Another observed, “Some of these rules are too extreme for modern church settings.”
