Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, has urged the Federal Government and security agencies to swiftly prosecute and publicly parade suspects arrested over the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

Speaking during Senate plenary on Wednesday, Ningi said those behind the crime should face justice to discourage others from committing similar offences.

“What is important going forward now is to take a cue. Now we have people arrested, they must be paraded, prosecuted and let the law take its full course,” he said.

The senator warned that delaying the prosecution of the suspects could weaken public trust in the justice system.

“Delayed prosecution will create another impression that something is wrong. I therefore call on the security agency to prosecute, parade, and use them as an example,” he added.

The victims were kidnapped by gunmen from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, LA Primary School, and Community Grammar School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

They regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity following a rescue operation carried out by a joint team of security operatives last Friday.
