Oyo SUBEB Confirms Teacher’s Death and Pupils’ Abduction in Oriire LG

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board has confirmed that a teacher was killed and several pupils were abducted after an attack on two schools in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oriire Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by Executive Chairman Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, the Board described the incident as a painful moment for the state’s education sector.

The schools involved were LA School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele.

At the time of the statement, the exact number of pupils taken was not yet known, as security agencies were still combing the area and collecting details about the event.

OYOSUBEB expressed sympathy to the families, teachers and residents affected, and assured parents and stakeholders that efforts were underway to secure the safe return of the kidnapped children.

The Board reported that security operatives, coordinated by the Commissioner of Police, had deployed a tactical response team to the area, while intelligence and rescue operations continued to restore peace and secure the victims’ release.

As a precaution, the Board ordered all primary schools in neighbouring communities—including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire and Olorunsogo—to vacate immediately until further notice.

This temporary closure was intended to prevent further attacks and allow security agencies to stabilise the affected areas.

Adeniran urged parents, guardians and community leaders to remain calm and to refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause panic.

He added that the state government would not relent until all abducted pupils were safely rescued.

The Board also mourned the slain teacher, describing his death as a tragic loss to the education sector and praising his dedication and service.
