The Oyo State Government has ordered schools in Oriire Local Government Area and adjacent LGAs to reopen on Monday, after deploying additional security forces to the affected communities.

Earlier on Friday, the government had closed schools following attacks in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Orire LGA, during which a teacher was killed and several students were abducted.

The affected areas are Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere, and Olorunsogo LGAs.

Dr Nureni Adeniran, Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), stated in a Friday statement from Ibadan that the decision followed a thorough security review after the recent attack on schools in Ahoro-Esinele.

He added that the state government, working with security agencies, had bolstered surveillance and safety measures throughout the affected areas to protect pupils, teachers and other school staff.

He noted that deploying extra security operatives under the Commissioner of Police’s directives had enhanced the security framework in the region.

“The safety of pupils and teachers remains a top priority of the state government.”

“Learning activities can now resume without fear, as the government continues to monitor the situation closely in partnership with local authorities and community stakeholders,” he said.

Adeniran urged parents and guardians to stay calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, assuring them that security presence would remain steady in the communities.

He added that the government would keep issuing timely updates on security developments in the affected areas. (NAN)
