Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore criticized President Bola Tinubu over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Speaking at a peaceful demonstration in the Federal Capital Territory, Sowore said the protest would move to Aso Rock if the kidnapped victims were not rescued within four days.
He also warned security agents tasked with protecting politicians and government officials that their own children could become victims at any time.
“You cannot claim to be president of Nigeria and then refuse to do the job of the Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces. We are here with the teachers. We will stay with the teachers, and we ensure they are protected,” Sowore said.
“We are not here to beg anybody. We are just asking people who claim they are elected to protect Nigerians to do their work.”
“It would have been great if these policemen who are preventing this could protect our schools. Your children are also in schools, and when the schools become the ground for kidnapping, one day your children will be kidnapped.”
“This is the time for everybody to have common sense and do what is right. Very soon, there will be more of this protest. We won’t come to the FCDA. This is the beginning.”
“On Thursday, we are going to Aso Rock Villa, if the children are not rescued. I will invite all Nigerians to come to the Aso Rock Villa,” Sowore added.
