A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi, together with Mogaji Oluwakayode Ogunsola and Amofin Beulah Adeoye, are the three candidates vying for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) gubernatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.
According to the DAILY POST, the three aspirants have expressed interest in the position and have been screened by the party leadership.
PDP Chairman in Oyo State, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, made the announcement in a statement released on Saturday.
Akinoso revealed that the party’s gubernatorial primary will take place on Sunday, May 24.
He added that the PDP will use a direct primary to select its candidate for the 2027 elections.
The party also disclosed that the collation of results will be held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Iyaganku, Ibadan.
Akinoso urged party members to remain calm and peaceful during the exercise and to cooperate with the candidates to build the next government in the state.
He said, “The Peoples Democratic Party is set to conduct a gubernatorial primary across the nation Sunday, 24 May 2026. In Oyo State, three aspirants, Barr Hazeem Gbolarumi, Mogaji Oluwakayode Ogunsola, and Amofin Beulah Adeoye, have shown interest in using the platform of PDP for the Oyo gubernatorial race for the 2027 general election.”
“The conduct of the primary will be in line with the amended electoral act. A direct primary will be adopted to decide the party flag bearer. This involves the participation of registered members at all wards. The NUJ house at Iyaganku, Ibadan, will serve as the state collation centre.”
“I want to use the medium to appeal to our members to remain peaceful and maintain orderliness during the exercise.”
