Otti warns Abia youths: School certificates lacking digital skills could hinder job prospects

Alex Otti warned youths in Abia State that relying solely on academic certificates from higher institutions will not guarantee job security. He urged them to develop advanced digital skills and knowledge to thrive in the 21st‑century economy.

The governor delivered the message on Wednesday while speaking to 850 participants of the three‑month Techrise Cohort 3 programme.

Otti emphasized that certificates alone are no longer enough for employment or survival in highly competitive settings if young people lack digital skills needed for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Represented by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Uzor Nwachukwu, the governor explained that the three‑month training programme aims to equip youths to become entrepreneurs, innovators, and job creators, thereby helping them escape unemployment.

“So do not just look for certificates. Seek deep competence and hands‑on problem‑solving skills,” Otti urged.

During his address, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Oge Maduka noted that participants would receive training in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Maduka added that the programme would also cover cybersecurity, product design, software development, data engineering, digital innovation, and other emerging technologies.
