Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan of the Osun State Command said that calls for his removal from certain quarters would motivate him to improve his performance.

He added that the calls for his removal constitute a fundamental human right of the residents.

The Osun police boss made these remarks during a press conference at the Police Command headquarters in Osogbo on Monday.

“I am aware that some individuals have called for my redeployment out of Osun State. That is part of their fundamental rights. Having recorded the achievements within the period under review, my conscience is very clear on this,” he said.

Gotan explained that some people were dissatisfied with his crime‑prevention and professional policing efforts, and that those who benefit from insecurity in the state may feel threatened by the command’s actions.

“You all know that in the course of crime prevention and doing my job professionally, some people are not happy and feel threatened, especially those benefiting from insecurity in the state,” he said.

He said his main goal was to carry out the policing strategy of Inspector‑General Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which seeks to make communities nationwide safe and peaceful.

“My sole intent is to implement the strategy of the Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which is making every nook and cranny of this country safe and peaceful,” he stated.

Gotan noted that the command had achieved successes over the past year through intelligence‑led, community‑oriented, and visibility policing, resulting in arrests and prosecutions of suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists and vehicle‑snatching syndicates.

He added that the command had also recovered arms and ammunition, seized stolen vehicles, and strengthened cooperation with stakeholders and other security agencies throughout the state.

Gotan said that although crime had not been completely eliminated, the command had reduced its frequency and severity through targeted operations, community cooperation, and regular patrols.

He concluded that he would continue to discharge his statutory duties to keep Osun State among the country’s most peaceful states, citing assessments from both internal and external sources that rank Osun as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states.
