…Flags off campaign in Osogbo
By Shina Abubakar
OSOGBO— Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State announced yesterday that he had welcomed a group of supporters from the former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Iyiola Omisore, into the Accord Party. He stated that he will remain on the ballot for the 2026 governorship election, despite a recent court ruling that deregistered five political parties.
The group of former APC members, who were part of the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, includes Folorunso Bamisayemi (Education), Yemi Lawal (Youth and Sport), and Jamiu Olawumi (SA Education). They said they would support Adeleke’s re‑election bid.
While flagging off his re‑election campaign in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, Adeleke dismissed concerns about the Federal High Court’s deregistration decision. He said, “My hope is in God and He told me this morning that I will win my re‑election. I love you; I don’t take Osun money to Lagos, Osun money will be in Osun. Oyetola, Adeoti are collecting half of the salary I am paying. They are plotting that I should not be on the ballot but I am a sharp guy.”
Speaking on behalf of the former APC members, Bamisayemi explained that they left the party because it refused to give Omisore the governorship ticket and instead fielded a weaker candidate against Adeleke. He added, “We the supporters of Omisore decided to join Adeleke for his re‑election. It is only in the Bible that David defeated Goliath; it never happened in reality. We told them but they refused to listen that Adeleke is a giant that David can’t defeat. We told them that they should present Omisore as the candidate of the party but they didn’t listen, he was disqualified.”
