Osun APC calls on EFCC to freeze accounts over alleged ₦13.7bn payroll fraud

By Shina Abubakar, Osogbo

The Diaspora Committee of the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze accounts that it believes are linked to a reported ₦13.7 billion “ghost workers” salary scheme in the state.

The request was issued in a statement released on Friday in Osogbo by the committee’s Secretary, Tunmise Ajiboye.

According to the committee, a consultant hired by the state government in 2023 to audit its workforce uncovered irregular salary payments totaling roughly ₦13.7 billion each year. The audit also revealed instances where the salaries of multiple workers were allegedly deposited into a single bank account.

The APC committee called on anti‑corruption agencies to act quickly to prevent the possible diversion of public funds, arguing that the money could be used for political purposes ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun.

It also voiced concern over the apparent silence from relevant anti‑corruption bodies since the alleged discovery, urging the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter.

In addition, the group requested that foreign missions—including those of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada—consider imposing visa restrictions on individuals who may be linked to the case until investigations are concluded.

The APC Diaspora Committee also reviewed the performance of the current administration, noting that it had assessed projects across the state and would continue to mobilise support for its governorship candidate ahead of the poll.

It expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the upcoming election and urged Osun indigenes in the diaspora to invest in the state to spur economic development and reduce unemployment.
