Osun APC and State Government Dispute Inquiry Panel's Credibility

Last week, the Osun State Government inaugurated a Commission of Inquiry to probe public peace disturbances throughout the state. The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) rejected the panel, citing doubts about its credibility and impartiality.

Retired Justice Adekunle Adeigbe chairs the commission. Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, acting for Governor Ademola Adeleke, formally inaugurated the panel at the Government House in Osogbo.

The commission was sworn in to examine the causes of recent security disturbances and to recommend actions that would restore lasting peace.

Speaking for the governor, Adewusi described the task as essential to the state’s stability, urging the commission to work diligently and without fear or favour.

He added that the commission’s findings should be guided by truth, facts, and justice, rather than sentiment or pressure.

He said, “The government is committed to peace because without peace, there can be no development. We expect recommendations that will not only address what has happened but also prevent future occurrences across all communities, towns, and villages in Osun.”

The deputy governor also assured the commission of the government’s full support, including logistics, security, and access to relevant agencies and official documents needed for its work.
