Osula: Newcastle United make transfer decision on Super Eagles target

Newcastle United have clarified their stance on the future of Super Eagles target William Osula ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Afrik‑Foot.

The 22‑year‑old had a breakthrough season with the Magpies, becoming the club’s first‑choice centre‑forward under manager Eddie Howe.

Osula signed for Newcastle in 2024 from Sheffield United and initially struggled for minutes amid stiff competition. The departure of Alexander Isak in a British‑record £125 million move to Liverpool last summer opened a gap in attack, but the young striker had to remain patient before earning a regular starting spot.

The Denmark‑born forward made his second Premier League start of the season in April, and a run of five goals from that point to the end of the campaign saw him finish with nine goals across all competitions.

Despite his impressive goal‑scoring form, the season proved difficult overall for Newcastle, who finished 12th in the league and suffered disappointing exits from cup competitions.

Newcastle United rule out William Osula departure

Osula was close to leaving Newcastle last summer after the arrivals of German striker Nick Woltemade in a club‑record £69 million deal and Yoane Wissa from Brentford for £55 million. However, a move away from St James’ Park ultimately failed to materialise, and the struggles of Newcastle’s new signings opened the door for him to re‑establish himself during the final months of the season.

According to CaughtOffside, Newcastle have no intention of allowing Osula to leave this summer, viewing him as an important part of their long‑term project ahead of a major rebuild next season.

The 22‑year‑old has attracted interest from several clubs, with Aston Villa among those reportedly monitoring his situation as Unai Emery looks to reinforce his attacking options.

Newcastle are unwilling to sanction his departure following the promise he showed this season. While the club is expected to return to the transfer market for reinforcements in the summer, the Denmark‑born forward is seen as a major part of their future plans.

With his club future now settled, Osula’s attention will turn to his international future, as Nigeria remains undecided after the NFF contacted his representatives in April over a possible switch of allegiance from Denmark.
