OPay Launches N1.2 bn Scholarship and N10 m Innovation Challenge with Google

Fintech firm OPay has announced that applications are now open for the 2026 edition of its scholarship program, part of a ten‑year commitment to invest N1.2 billion in education. The company also revealed a new N10 million innovation challenge in partnership with Google, designed to give Nigerian students digital and problem‑solving skills.

Rebranded as OPay Scholars, the program extends beyond financial aid to provide technical training, exposure to innovation, and career opportunities for students in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Applications for the Innovation Challenge will be accepted from 25 May to 14 June 2026. Participants are expected to form teams of five and create technology‑based solutions to real‑world problems.

OPay says that teams will need to use Google Gemini tools during the competition. Winners will receive cash prizes: the overall champion will take home N10 million, the first runner‑up N5 million, and the second runner‑up N3 million. Chief Commercial Officer Elizabeth Wang said the company remains committed to investing in the future of Nigerian youth through education and innovation.
