Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa urged voters in Ondo South to back the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Professor Dayo Faduyile, at the senatorial by‑election held on Saturday. The governor, speaking at the APC grand finale rally in Okitipupa, described Faduyile as the most qualified person to represent the district in the Senate.
The by‑election was called after former senator Jimoh Ibrahim was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Represented by his deputy Dr. Olayide Adelami, Governor Aiyedatiwa called on residents to turn out in large numbers and to conduct themselves peacefully so that every vote counts. He said Faduyile possesses the experience, intellect and leadership qualities needed to articulate Ondo South’s interests at the National Assembly.
According to the governor, the district has benefited from strong representation under Senator Ibrahim, whom he called “an intellectual of notable standing.” Aiyedatiwa added that Ondo South cannot afford to lower the bar and that Faduyile has the capacity and pedigree to continue that legacy.
The governor expressed confidence that the APC’s popularity is growing across the state and reiterated the party’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, Ondo State APC Chairman Hon. Babatunde Kolawole urged party members and stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the poll, assuring them of the State Working Committee’s commitment to securing victory for the party.
APC Campaign Committee Chairman Pastor Femi Agagu described Faduyile as a candidate whose credentials, acceptability and track record make him an attractive choice for voters throughout the district.
Speaking on behalf of APC leaders in Ondo South, Chief Olusola Oke and Hon. Isaac Kekemeke said the election offers the district an opportunity to reaffirm its support for the ruling party and demonstrate its readiness to contribute significantly to President Tinubu’s re‑election bid in 2027.
The rally drew prominent party leaders, members of the State Executive Council from the district, elected officials and representatives of various interest groups, all of whom pledged support for the APC candidate ahead of Saturday’s contest.
