The Ondo Police Command announced on Friday that it will impose restrictions on both vehicular traffic and waterway movement in Ondo South ahead of the Saturday by‑election for the senatorial seat.
The restrictions are scheduled to take effect from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, and police officers have been positioned to maintain security throughout the day.
According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, essential service workers will be exempt from the restrictions.
Jimoh warned that any unauthorized movement or activity that could disrupt the electoral process would not be tolerated, and that strict enforcement would be carried out.
“The Commissioner of Police also cautions political actors, their supporters, and the public against violence, voter intimidation, vote‑buying, thuggery, or any other conduct that could undermine the integrity of the election,” the officer said.
“Anyone found violating electoral laws or engaging in activities likely to cause a breach of peace will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he added.
He reassured residents that the command has intensified intelligence gathering, increased visibility policing, conducted strategic patrols, and coordinated operations with other security agencies to ensure a safe environment before, during, and after the election.
