‘Stop using insecurity to distract Tinubu’ – Okpebholo tells opposition

Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo has warned those who foster insecurity in the country to stop, urging the presidency to concentrate on governance.

Okpebholo made the statement on Tuesday in Benin at the flag‑off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign for Local Government Council elections in the Edo South Senatorial District.

He said the sudden rise in insecurity across the country had been orchestrated to tarnish President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Okpebholo added that promoting insecurity would not secure seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, or the presidency, noting that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.

“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. They can even kidnap all of us—yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition,” he said. “They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well,” Okpebholo added.

The governor reiterated that the President had done more for the country than his predecessors.

He noted that the removal of the fuel subsidy had impacted various projects across the state.

He praised those who emerged as candidates through the party’s primary election for the upcoming council elections, saying their victories could help deliver the 2.5 million votes pledged to President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the event, the party’s chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, described the APC as the only viable party in the state and urged candidates to carry the governor’s developmental message to every corner of the state and replicate it in their local government areas.

The highlight of the event, according to the Need Agency of Nigeria (NAN), was the official unveiling of the Edo South APC candidates by the governor, including Ogbeide Ihama as senator, Dr. Paddy Iyamu for Oredo federal constituency, and Omorede Igbinedion for Ovia federal constituency, among others.
