Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has condemned a kidnapping that occurred in the “Vegetable Market” area of Airport Road, Benin, calling it unacceptable and a direct attack on innocent residents.

The statement was issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, and was released to newsmen in Benin on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident took place on Sunday.

Okpebholo has instructed the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to launch an immediate and coordinated investigation into the event.

The governor said the investigation aims to secure the safe rescue of the victims and to bring those responsible to justice.

He warned that the Edo government will not tolerate any act that threatens public safety, security, or the peace of the state.

Residents across the state are urged to remain alert and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, noting that timely information will aid ongoing police operations.

Okpebholo reaffirmed that his administration will not relent until those responsible are apprehended and face the full weight of the law. (NAN)
