ASABA – Former Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has been selected as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Delta North senatorial district in the 2027 general election.
Okowa defeated incumbent Senator Ned Nwoko in the party’s direct primaries, which were held across the wards of the nine local government areas in the district.
He won by a wide margin, receiving 113,309 votes to Nwoko’s 2,612.
Eugene Odo, chair of the Delta State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, announced: “Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, having secured the highest number of votes in the APC senatorial primaries for Delta North, is hereby declared the winner of the election.”
In Delta Central, incumbent Senator Ede Dafinone secured the party’s senatorial ticket, defeating former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo‑Agege.
Dafinone polled 116,252 votes, while Omo‑Agege received 3,643.
Barr. Nusa Amagbor, Secretary to the Delta State National Assembly Primary Election Committee and the returning officer for the election, stated: “Based on the authenticated results before me, Senator Ede Dafinone scored a total of 116,252 votes, his opponent scored 3,643 votes. Having satisfied all the requirements of our great party and having secured the highest number of valid votes cast in this primary, Senator Ede Dafinone is hereby declared the winner of the Delta Central Senatorial District primary election.”
Meanwhile, supporters of Ned Nwoko have urged stakeholders to allow the will of the people to prevail in the primary, claiming that the process was hijacked to block Nwoko’s re‑election in favor of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
The message, relayed through Ekene Kerry, Director General of the Nwoko campaign group, alleged state interference in the Senate primary.
