Oil resumption: MOSOP backs NSA’s dialogue c’ttee to end 33 years conflict

Port Harcourt—The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has stated that the dialogue opportunity presented by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) could mark a decisive moment for the Ogoni people in resolving more than 33 years of conflict with the Nigerian oil industry.

MOSOP has urged Ogoni communities to allow the NSA‑coordinated dialogue initiative to proceed, emphasizing that the process could benefit all parties involved.

At a weekend meeting of MOSOP leaders in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, President of MOSOP Fegalo Nsuke said the current dialogue process represents a significant departure from previous government approaches and should be given a chance to succeed.

“The Ogoni people, led by MOSOP, have collectively fought to secure a future for our community. Whatever benefits arise from these struggles should ultimately serve the good of all Ogoni,” Nsuke said.

He added, “Anyone who wishes to own an oil company must register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and must not attempt to short‑change Ogoni interests.”

Nsuke urged Ogoni people to defend the costly struggles they have endured and to seize the opportunity to discuss mutual benefits. He stated that MOSOP would strongly support a settlement that is mutually advantageous, and that the organization would remain patient while the dialogue unfolds.

He called on the public to reject self‑centred attempts that could derail the progress achieved so far, stressing that the focus should remain on mutual benefits for the Ogoni people.

“MOSOP has consistently insisted on collective benefits that reflect the sacrifices of the Ogoni people,” Nsuke said. “At this time, we support the ongoing dialogue process and will wait to see its outcome.”

He condemned what he described as “divisive campaigns” that divert government attention from the critical questions raised by the Ogoni people and exploit the situation for private interests. Nsuke emphasized that MOSOP would not be swayed to prioritize private interests over the collective good of the Ogoni people.
