Just over a month after a gas leak hit a secondary school in Ijebu Ode, a second leak occurred on Friday, impacting more than 100 students and teachers in the local government.

The initial leak occurred on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Our Lady of Apostle Primary and Secondary Schools (OLAS), resulting in the admission of at least thirty students and two teachers to the State General Hospital in Ijebu Ode.

In response, Governor Dapo Abiodun ordered the school’s immediate closure and launched an investigation to identify the cause and prevent future incidents.

He also established a situation room at the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, providing free treatment to students and residents of affected areas including Makalewo, Ogbogbo, Molipa, Igbegba, Ikoto, and Oke-Aje market.

A subsequent leak, however, affected more than 100 students and teachers at Our Lady of Apostle Secondary School in Epe Garage, Ijebu Ode, as well as at Anglican Girls Grammar School in Obalende, among other schools.

A viral Facebook video showed students fleeing one of the affected schools while teachers helped those who had fainted into vehicles for medical care.
