Operatives from the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command arrested two suspects and disrupted a plot to kidnap a Chinese national along the Ijebu‑Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.
The suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were taken into custody on Monday at about 5:30 pm.
Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said on Thursday that the arrests followed credible, actionable intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer.
After receiving the information, the officer mobilised Division operatives, including the Surveillance Team, to the identified axis. The suspects were intercepted and arrested there, preventing the planned crime from being carried out.
Babaseyi explained that the preliminary investigation revealed the suspects had conspired to abduct a Chinese national and demand a ransom of ₦50,000,000.
He added that Chinedu Onwuemena, who worked for the company as an interpreter and driver, allegedly used his position to facilitate the plan.
Investigations also showed that the arrested suspects were not acting alone but were working with another accomplice who is currently at large.
Babaseyi said efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while discreet investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the criminal network behind the conspiracy.
He noted that Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the professionalism, vigilance, and swift response of the Obalende Division operatives, whose proactive action averted a serious kidnapping incident.
The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of timely intelligence, reassuring residents and the business community that the Ogun State Police Command remains committed to intelligence‑led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the relentless pursuit of criminal elements threatening public peace and safety.
