The Ogun State Police Command has taken into custody a 23‑year‑old man named Adeshola Muyiwa. Police allege that he defrauded residents and traders in the Agbado area and surrounding communities by sending fake bank transfer alerts.
Detectives from the Agbado Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Adesanya Oyekanmi, carried out the arrest.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said Muyiwa was apprehended on Saturday, 17 May 2026, after a food vendor at Owolanwa Junction in Agbado filed a complaint.
Babaseyi explained that the suspect had visited the vendor earlier that day, bought food worth N2,600, and then presented a counterfeit transfer notification as proof of payment.
“The arrest was effected at about 11:45 am following a report that the suspect fraudulently obtained food items and presented a fake transfer notification as proof of payment,” the spokesperson said.
He added that the rapid response and coordinated effort by Agbado Division officers led to the suspect’s capture shortly after the incident was reported.
Initial investigations suggest that Muyiwa had been running a pattern of fake and scheduled transfer scams across Agbado and nearby communities, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
“During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to engaging in the fraudulent activities over a period of time, with proceeds allegedly amounting to about N10 million,” Babaseyi added.
State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the officers of the Agbado Division for their professionalism, vigilance and operational effectiveness in tracking and arresting the suspect.
“The Command remains committed to sustaining the fight against financial and cyber‑enabled crimes across Ogun State,” Ojajuni said.
He also advised traders, business owners and residents to confirm payments through their banking applications or account statements before releasing goods or rendering services.
Ojajuni urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities and criminal movements to security agencies promptly.
