…unveils technology-driven security measures

By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State announced that his administration is on high alert in response to increasing security threats across the country. He outlined plans to deploy technology‑driven solutions to strengthen the state’s security framework and protect lives and property.

The declaration was made during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Strategic Meeting at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara, Abeokuta.

Expressing concern over the rising incidents of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping in various parts of the country, Abiodun assured residents that the government would take proactive steps to prevent criminal elements from establishing a presence in Ogun State.

“We are rising to the occasion of insecurity by deploying technology to safeguard the lives of our people. We will not wait for anyone to come and attack us,” the governor said.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security through strategic investments in security infrastructure, closer collaboration with security agencies, and active community engagement.

According to him, “As a government, we reaffirm our commitment to the protection of lives and property across Ogun State. Through strategic investments in security infrastructure, collaboration with security agencies and community engagement, we remain committed to maintaining Ogun State as a secure, peaceful and investment‑friendly destination.”

Abiodun highlighted that special attention is being given to the security of schools and other educational institutions, stressing that children, as the future of the state, must be adequately protected.

He explained that the government has intensified security around schools through increased surveillance, deployment of security personnel to strategic locations, enhanced inter‑agency cooperation, and the use of modern technology to monitor vulnerable areas.

The governor noted that these measures are designed to deter criminal activity and ensure that schools remain safe and conducive environments for learning.

On the socio‑economic front, Abiodun revealed that while his administration has made significant progress in infrastructure development, greater emphasis will now be placed on human capital development and social intervention programmes aimed at mitigating the effects of prevailing economic challenges on residents.

He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of the people and ensuring that the dividends of democracy are felt across all segments of society.

The governor also praised members of the APC in Ogun State for conducting peaceful and crisis‑free primary elections, describing the exercise as a reflection of political maturity, unity and party discipline.

“Our primary was inclusive, transparent and fair. We sat down, discussed and chose our candidates without rancour. Though many contested, only one person could emerge. Those who stepped down for others are the unsung heroes of this process,” he stated.

Earlier, the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, praised party members for their exemplary conduct during and after the primaries.

Sanusi explained that the strategic meeting was convened to strengthen consultations, mobilisation and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
