Police in Ogun State have taken into custody Adeshola Muyiwa, 23, on suspicion of a N2,600 transfer fraud in the Agbado area of Ifo Local Government.

The suspect allegedly visited a food vendor at Owolanwa Junction around 8 a.m. on Sunday, bought items worth N2,600, and showed a forged transfer alert as proof of payment.

He was apprehended at about 11:45 a.m. by officers of the Agbado Division led by DPO Adesanya Oyekanmi.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrest on Monday, noting that an initial investigation uncovered a pattern of fake and scheduled transfer scams carried out by the suspect across Agbado and nearby areas, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

During interrogation, Muyiwa reportedly admitted to engaging in the fraudulent activity over an extended period, with alleged proceeds amounting to roughly N10 million.

“The arrest was effected on 17/05/2026 at about 1145hrs following a report that at about 0800hrs of the same date, the suspect visited a food vendor at Owolanwa Junction, Agbado, purchased food items worth Two Thousand Six Hundred Naira (₦2,600) and fraudulently presented a fake transfer alert as proof of payment,” Babaseyi said. “Prompt response and coordinated investigative action by operatives of Agbado Division led to the swift arrest of the suspect. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been operating a consistent pattern of fake and scheduled transfer scams across Agbado and neighbouring areas, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.”

The spokesperson also quoted State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, who praised the professionalism, vigilance, and operational effectiveness of the division’s officers and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating financial and cyber‑enabled crimes in the state.

Ojajuni urged traders, business owners, and residents to verify payment receipts through banking applications or account statements before releasing goods or services to avoid falling victim to such schemes.

Meanwhile, the DAILY POST reports that the suspect was arraigned in court on Monday on two counts related to theft and breach of public peace. He was granted bail of N20,000, and the case was adjourned until 25 May 2026.
