Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun reaffirmed his pledge to protect the state, stating that no resident’s life will be compromised for any reason.
The comments were made during a security briefing with Deputy Inspector General of Police for the South‑West, DIG Fayoade Adegoke, who visited Abeokuta on Friday.
Governor Abiodun, represented by Secretary to the Ogun State Government Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, said the administration is fully committed to modernising the state’s security framework.
He acknowledged that contemporary security challenges have surpassed traditional policing methods.
“As a government, we recognise that tackling insecurity has gone beyond conventional means. We have scaled up our technology‑driven approach and remain ready to support the police in every way possible to improve our security landscape,” he said.
Highlighting recent actions, the governor noted that the administration has acquired 65 patrol vehicles to boost the operational capacity of security agencies across the state.
Abiodun also praised Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni for his dedication and passion, crediting him with contributing to the successes of the “Gateway Shield” initiative.
Earlier, DIG Fayoade Adegoke urged an urgent shift toward a technology‑driven security strategy to address rising cross‑border criminal activity.
Adegoke stressed that Ogun State’s role as a key economic hub makes its security a national priority. He noted that while the Nigeria Police Force, under the Inspector General of Police, remains committed to securing the country, Ogun’s unique challenges require specialised intervention.
Recognising the state’s achievements in apprehending numerous criminal elements, the DIG called on the government to build on these gains by increasing investment in modern security infrastructure.
The DIG specifically requested enhanced logistics support, arguing that the terrain along international borders demands a robust fleet of high‑performance, rugged patrol vehicles.
He also identified the acquisition of advanced surveillance drones as a top priority.
“The need for this upgrade is very urgent. We need to shift our attention and resources toward our international borders to ensure that criminal elements do not find a foothold in our communities,” he added.
