ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Ministry of Justice has issued new information on two prominent gender‑based violence cases: the alleged rape of Miss Nsikak Abigael Emem, known as Mirabel, and the gang rape of a 15‑year‑old girl in Ifo Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN) announced that investigations by the relevant authorities had determined that Mirabel’s rape allegation was false and deliberately fabricated.
The statement noted that the investigation’s findings, which included admissions allegedly made by Mirabel, indicated that no rape had taken place as originally alleged.
“The investigations by relevant authorities, as well as Mirabel’s own admissions, established that the rape allegation was false and deliberately fabricated,” the statement said.
The ministry explained that because no offence had been committed, there was no suspect to arrest or prosecute, and the allegation posed no threat to public safety that had previously caused public concern.
Despite the investigation’s outcome, the government stated that it chose not to prosecute Mirabel, instead opting for rehabilitation.
“Following a comprehensive review of the circumstances, the Ministry concluded that the interest of justice would be better served through psycho‑social rehabilitation rather than prosecution,” the statement added.
