Ogun East APC names Abiodun its consensus candidate, but Daniel insists on holding a primary.

Yesterday, a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Ogun East Senatorial District announced Governor Dapo Abiodun as the zone’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The presentation of Abiodun coincided with former state governor and current senator for the district, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, stating that the APC candidate would be chosen through a primary election among the senatorial aspirants.

Both Abiodun’s consensus announcement and Daniel’s counter‑statement took place at separate but simultaneous events in Ijebu Ode, the headquarters of Ogun East Senatorial District.

Daniel addressed the crowd during the PBAT/OGD Movement Mid‑Term Assessment Tour and Empowerment Programme for district residents.

Organisers of the event that presented Abiodun said the move was intended to guarantee quality representation and maintain party unity in the senatorial district.

Top APC leaders attended, including the party’s consensus governorship candidate for Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, along with other senior stakeholders from Ogun East.

Among the attendees were former deputy governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun and Gbenga Kaka; Ogun State APC Chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi; Deputy Chairman Chief James Dina; Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District Senator Lekan Mustapha; and APC Ogun East Zone Chairman Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin.

During the presentation, Adesegun said that party members throughout the district had unanimously endorsed the governor as the APC consensus candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District.

Mustapha echoed this, describing the adoption of Abiodun as a collective decision by district members to secure effective and quality representation in the National Assembly.
