Oden Ewa has been selected as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Cross River Central Senatorial District after winning the party’s primary election on Sunday in preparation for the 2027 general elections. The results were announced by Returning Officer Barrister Eyo Nsa Ekpo after the collation of votes at the Ikom Local Government Area Council Hall.
Ewa received 32,426 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Barrister Mary Ekpere, who garnered 991 votes, while Eteng Jones obtained 726 votes. Following his victory, the former Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs under Governor Bassey Otu’s administration thanked party leaders, delegates, members and supporters for the overwhelming mandate. He said the outcome reflected years of dedication and contributions to the development of the district and the state.
Ewa praised Governor Otu for creating a level playing field and fostering an environment of peace, stability and progress in the state. He also thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve in his administration for nearly three years and for giving him the platform to contest the primary as a first‑time aspirant. He highlighted the peaceful and orderly conduct of the primary as a positive sign for democratic practice and a preview of what could be expected in the 2027 general elections.
While urging supporters not to take the victory for granted, Ewa emphasized that the real challenge lies in winning the general election. He extended an olive branch to his fellow candidates, calling on them to unite and work together for the party’s success. “My victory is a victory for everyone, a collective victory and not an individual one,” he said. He added that sustaining the party’s dominance and securing a win in the general elections would require collective effort and unity among members.
Ewa pledged loyalty to the party and assured members and supporters that he would not betray the confidence placed in him. He also called for continued peace, unity and harmony within the APC and across the state.
