Peter Obi, the presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), visited former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in Abuja on Tuesday night.
The visit followed Obi’s clearance by the NDC’s screening committee, which approved his participation in the party’s presidential primary for the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso announced the meeting in a post on X, stating that Obi had come to his Maitama residence in Abuja.
In the post, the former Kano governor referred to Obi as “my brother” and expressed confidence in the NDC’s future.
“Last night, I received a courtesy visit from my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, shortly after his successful screening as the presidential aspirant of our party, the NDC. The future is bright and full of promise,” Kwankwaso wrote.
The encounter came after both Obi and Kwankwaso joined the NDC in early May 2026, having left the African Democratic Congress (ADC). They had each contested the 2023 presidential election on different political platforms.
Their move to the NDC has fueled speculation that they might form a presidential ticket together.
Obi was cleared unopposed by the NDC screening committee on Tuesday, reportedly becoming the sole aspirant to purchase the party’s presidential nomination form.
