Obasanjo Visits Kano to Meet Kwankwaso

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Nigeria Democratic Congress’s (NDC) vice‑presidential candidate, visited former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at his Kano home on Thursday night.

During the visit, Kwankwaso introduced the NDC’s gubernatorial candidate in Kano, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, to the former president.

Although the details of the meeting were not released, observers have linked the encounter to early consultations ahead of the 2027 elections, in which Mr. Peter Obi is the NDC’s presidential candidate.

In a post on his verified X account, the national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement said, “Last night, I paid a courtesy visit to our esteemed leader, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at his accommodation in Kano.”

“I was accompanied by the former Deputy Governor and our gubernatorial candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo,” Kwankwaso added.

The engagement continued into Friday morning when Kwankwaso escorted Obasanjo to the Emir’s Palace in Kano. Both leaders attended the turbanning ceremony of Barrister Abubakar Mahmoud, a prominent legal practitioner and political ally.

Obasanjo’s presence at the traditional event attracted wide attention from stakeholders and Kano residents.

Spokesman of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr. Habibu Mohammed, said the visit should not come as a surprise.
