Obama White House Instagram account hacked

Meta confirmed that the official Instagram account for the Obama White House was hacked, resulting in the posting of unauthorised content before the platform restored control and removed the material.

The breach was discovered on Sunday when the account, @obamawhitehouse, began sharing unusual posts, including an AI‑generated image and a caption stating that “the White House is under Shiites’ control.”

During the incident, the hackers also uploaded a series of unauthorised Instagram Stories, which attracted attention from followers before the content was taken down.

Meta said the account has since been secured and all unauthorised posts deleted, but it did not explain how the attackers accessed the page.

The affected account is the official archival page of the Obama White House and is distinct from former President Barack Obama’s personal Instagram account.

Its last verified post was published on January 20, 2017, the day of Donald Trump’s first inauguration.

Meta stated that investigations into the breach are ongoing, and the identities of those responsible remain unknown.
