The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano has detained a 22‑year‑old man accused of vandalising railway components related to the Federal Government’s Kaduna‑Kano railway project.

In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the suspect, Sani Ismail, is said to be from Kuya village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He was arrested in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State after intelligence reports directed NSCDC operatives to his location.

The statement added that “preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect vandalised and removed eleven rail line clips installed on the new standard gauge railway project currently under construction by the Federal Government of Nigeria.”

NSCDC officials said the suspect was found in possession of a hammer that was allegedly used to remove the railway clips.

The command also confirmed the arrest of two individuals, Yusuf Usman and Muhd Auwal, both 22 years old and residents of Kawo Jirga in Nassarawa LGA, Kano State. The men are alleged to have posed as civil defence volunteers, even though they were not listed in the organisation’s volunteer database.

According to the statement, the two men operated from a location bearing the NSCDC logo and allegedly harassed and maltreated a social media comedian.

“Investigation into the case has been concluded, and necessary legal actions will be taken against the two suspected fake volunteers,” the statement added.
