The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos State Command has detained individuals suspected of damaging armoured telecommunications cables in the Amuwo‑Odofin area of Lagos State.
The suspects were seized while attempting the vandalism after local residents reported suspicious activity to the command’s operatives.
In a statement released on Thursday, Public Relations Officer Oluwaseun Abolurin confirmed the operation’s success, citing reliable intelligence supplied by community members.
“This breakthrough is part of our ongoing campaign to curb vandalism and safeguard critical infrastructure across Lagos State,” Abolurin said.
He praised the Amuwo residents for their cooperation and timely information, which he said was instrumental in the arrests.
According to Abolurin, the partnership between residents and security agencies has been reinforced through community engagement programmes organized by the command in the first and second quarters of 2026 in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The command added that investigations into the incident are still underway.
