The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced its backing for Team Nigeria as the nation prepares for the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships.
The tournament kicks off in Accra, Ghana, on Tuesday (today).
Nigeria will field a squad of 41 athletes for the six‑day continental meet.
NSC Director General Bukola Olopade urged the competitors to perform with confidence, discipline and patriotism, representing the country as its ambassadors.

“Team Nigeria has continued to demonstrate tremendous growth and consistency on the continental and global stage, and we are confident that our athletes will make the country proud once again in Ghana,” Olopade said.
“This championship is another opportunity to showcase the depth of talent we possess as a nation. We are particularly encouraged by the blend of experienced international stars and emerging young athletes in the team.”
The Nigerian delegation consists of 17 men and 24 women who will contest 26 track‑and‑field events, as the country aims to sustain its impressive ascent in African athletics.
Heading the squad is world‑record holder and sprint‑hurdles champion Tobi Amusan, together with a number of top home‑based and foreign‑based athletes who have already arrived in Accra ahead of the competition.
