The National Sports Commission (NSC), together with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has formed a Welfare Committee to support the Super Falcons during their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title‑defence campaign in Morocco.

The seven‑member committee will be chaired by NFF Executive Board member Aisha Falode, with Ruth David appointed as Secretary.

Other members include Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, Babagana Kalli, Emeka Iyama, Aderonke Tinuoye, and Tobechukwu Oluchi.

Olopade Wants Hitch‑Free Campaign For Super Falcons

NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade stated that the Federal Government is dedicated to ensuring the Super Falcons experience a smooth campaign at the tournament, free from financial disputes or distractions.

“Mr President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, are both personally committed to seeing that the Falcons successfully defend their title in Morocco. This ad‑hoc committee was established to further assist the NFF in ensuring a seamless campaign for the team,” declared Olopade.

“Welfare is an unnegotiable key part of any team’s competition success, and with this committee, the players can be assured that the NSC and NFF are taking their welfare very seriously for the WAFCON,” he added.

Sanusi Thumbs Up NSC

NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi described the committee’s creation as a landmark achievement resulting from the partnership between the NSC and the NFF.

According to Sanusi, it is the first time a dedicated welfare committee has been constituted for the Super Falcons ahead of a major international tournament, underscoring both bodies’ commitment to prioritizing the team’s welfare and ensuring a successful title defence in Morocco.

“For us at the NFF, this shows the level of commitment the NSC is putting into women’s football, and it will only help the women’s game continue to grow rapidly in the country,” Sanusi stated.

“We believe this committee is not going to the WAFCON to take the responsibilities of anybody but to make sure we have a seamless campaign for the tournament.”

Nigeria’s Quest For Another Title

The Super Falcons have been drawn into Group C, where they will face debutants Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt.

Justine Madugu’s side will open their campaign against Malawi on Tuesday, 28 July, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.

The WAFCON 2026 tournament will be hosted by Morocco from 26 July to 16 August.
