The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced that it will temporarily increase the number of train services on the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) corridor on Tuesday, in preparation for the upcoming Sallah holiday.
Chief Public Relations Officer Mr Callistus Unyimadu made the statement in Lagos on Saturday.
Unyimadu explained that the temporary change is intended to accommodate the expected rise in passenger traffic, as many Nigerians travel to visit family and friends during the festive season.
“Under the special arrangement, the corporation will run six train trips on Tuesday, May 26, instead of the usual four trips on the corridor,” he said.
“For the day, departures from Lagos will be at 7.45 a.m., 1.40 p.m. and 4.00 p.m., while departures from Ibadan will be at 8.00 a.m., 10.50 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.”
Unyimadu clarified that this arrangement is strictly temporary and applies only to the Sallah travel period. “After the celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume,” he added.
He also noted that the recently introduced six‑trip Thursday schedule has been temporarily adjusted, with only four trips operating on Thursday, May 28, during the review period. “The regular six‑trip Thursday schedule will resume the following week,” he said.
Unyimadu mentioned that the Osun State Government will run its annual free Sallah train service on the NRC narrow‑gauge corridor for residents of the state traveling home to celebrate the festival in Osogbo.
“The special train will depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, and the return trip from Osogbo to Lagos will take place on Thursday, May 28,” he said.
“The service, which is normally operated during festive periods, is being sponsored by the Osun State Government through a paid arrangement with the NRC to convey Osun indigenes free of charge for the Sallah celebration,” Unyimadu added.
“The NRC reaffirms its commitment to providing safe, efficient and reliable rail transportation services across the country and wishes all Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Sallah celebration,” he said. (NAN)
