President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended congratulations to Rangers International FC after the club secured its ninth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.
The announcement was made on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
President Tinubu praised the club’s managers, players and supporters for finishing the season at the top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches, surpassing their nearest competitor, Rivers United.
He recalled Rangers’ historic success during the 1970s and 1980s, when the club claimed multiple league and FA Cup titles. Tinubu highlighted the 1975 run to the African Cup of Champions Clubs final and the 1977 triumph in the African Cup Winners’ Cup.
“I must also congratulate Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Rangers International FC’s victory. This success is a clear result of his administration’s investment in youth and sports in the state. I commend him,” the President said.
“As one of Nigeria’s oldest clubs, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football talent, who have gone on to make the country proud on the global stage. I am proud of their achievement,” he added.
President Tinubu also lauded Rivers United for their strong performance throughout the tournament and for displaying commendable sportsmanship.
He wished both Rangers International FC and Rivers United the best of luck as they prepare to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
