NPFL: Dosu urges better welfare for players and coaches

Former Shooting Stars goalkeeper John Dos Dosu has urged the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to enhance the welfare package for its coaches and players.

According to Dos Dosu, a comprehensive welfare plan would enable the NPFL to stand alongside the continent’s leading leagues.

He highlighted that low salaries hinder clubs from keeping their top talent.

“It’s time we address player and coach welfare in the NPFL,” Dos Dosu wrote on his social media handle. “We’ve seen coaches earning as little as ₦100 k and ₦200 k per month, yet we expect the league to grow. Mr Elegbeleye, we can and must do better.”

“Low salaries for coaches and players lead to high turnover, low motivation, and make it hard to attract and keep talent.”

“If the NPFL wants to grow its brand, improve quality, and compete with other African leagues, salary structures and welfare packages have to improve across the board.”
