Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan, said he has received threats after criticizing political leaders in Northern Nigeria and highlighting governance issues in the region.
The claim was made in a video posted on VeryDarkMan’s official page.
He explained that some people reacted negatively to his recent remarks about development in Northern Nigeria, with one individual allegedly threatening to kill him if he ever visited the area.
“I see some northern/arewa influencers are asking for my head because of the video I made yesterday. Some are in my DMs dropping threat,” he said.
VeryDarkMan added that he is not afraid of the threats and believes he could travel to any part of Northern Nigeria without incident.
The activist emphasized that his criticism targets political leaders, not ordinary residents of the region.
He argues that politicians must be held accountable for problems such as insecurity, poverty and limited economic opportunities that affect many communities in the North.
“The northern part of Nigeria is holding Nigeria back because the politicians made it so. I am not blaming the people, I am blaming the government for doing that to its people,” he stated.
VeryDarkMan described Northern Nigerians as hardworking and honest, asserting that the region’s difficulties stem largely from governance failures.
He also criticized what he called ineffective empowerment programmes, citing a recent initiative in Kano State where plates were reportedly distributed to beneficiaries.
“I wonder why the Kano State governor was doing an empowerment programme and he was sharing plates. That’s not empowerment, that’s empowering poverty,” he said.
The activist further alleged that insecurity has harmed farming activities in parts of the region and urged critics to focus more on issues affecting Northern communities.
He said those attacking him over his comments should direct their concerns toward the political leaders responsible for governance.
“You’re having a fight with VDM when you should be fighting with the politicians,” he said.
