At least nine people were killed and 11 others injured when an armed attack struck Angwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The community lies on the border with Plateau State.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, heightening concerns about insecurity along the Kaduna–Plateau corridor.
Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, said the attackers entered the village and opened fire on residents.
Yonkpa added that most of the affected residents belong to the Irigwe ethnic group, whose origins are in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The deceased
The victims were identified as Jerry Doctor, 51; Danlami Magani, 49; Sunday Chibi, 53; Rita Abdullahi, 45; Sunday Elkan, 5; Esther Kefas, 5; Happy Friday, 6; Moses Daddy, 4; and Daddy Ibrahim, 28.
Eleven other residents sustained injuries of varying severity and are reportedly receiving medical care.
Danjuma Dickson Auta, National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, confirmed the attack and condemned it.
Auta described the killings as tragic and urged security agencies to investigate promptly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also called for stronger security measures to protect lives and property, noting that repeated attacks in the area have left the community in mourning and fueled calls for urgent intervention to stop the violence.
