Paul Onuachu has joined an exclusive group of Nigerian footballers who have finished as the top scorer in a major European league, after sharing the Turkish Süper Lig Golden Boot with Eldor Shomurodov.
The Nigeria international had a prolific season with Trabzonspor, netting 22 league goals to finish level with Shomurodov, who plays for Istanbul Başakşehir.
By claiming the award, Onuachu also made club history as the sixth Trabzonspor player to win the individual scoring accolade, further cementing his impact since arriving in Turkey.
This achievement adds another milestone to the 2.01‑meter striker’s career, following his earlier Golden Boot win in the Belgian Pro League during the 2020–21 season with KRC Genk.
Onuachu now joins a select group of Nigerian players who have ended a season as leading scorers in Europe’s top divisions.
The most recent Nigerian to achieve this before Onuachu was Victor Osimhen, who finished as the top scorer in Serie A in the 2022–23 season after helping Napoli win their first league title in more than three decades.
Other Nigerians who have won Golden Boot honours in major European leagues include Joseph Akpala, who topped the scoring charts in Belgium in 2007–08, and Tosin Dosunmu, who achieved the same feat in the 2005–06 Belgian season.
