The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) said that the Nigerian military has played a key role over the past several months.

Commander of AFRICOM, Dagvin Anderson, made the remarks on Wednesday during a press briefing.

Anderson discussed the partnership between Nigeria and the United States in recent security operations.

He noted that the Nigerian military has assisted in target development, intelligence gathering, and operational support.

“So, it could not have been done only by our own forces. We needed to do that in conjunction with them,” Anderson said.

“The operation over the weekend built a lot of that credibility of what the US can bring and those unique capabilities can be brought to bear in conjunction with our partners,” he added.

“We are using that to leverage that to engage with other nations, such as those in the Sahel, where the terrorists’ strikes continue to grow,” Anderson concluded.
