The Federal Government has announced that Wednesday, 27 May and Thursday, 28 May 2026 will be public holidays to observe Eid ul Adha.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo made the declaration in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.
The statement explained that the move reflects the Federal Government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of the millions of Nigerian Muslims who join the global Islamic community in marking the sacred occasion.
Tunji‑Ojo extended the government’s congratulations to all Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the diaspora, describing Eid ul Adha as a festival of deep spiritual significance rooted in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for one’s fellow man.
He urged all Nigerians to use the period for prayer and sober reflection, seeking divine guidance for the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
