The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, a public holiday to commemorate Democracy Day.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

The statement, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, noted that June 12 remains a significant day in the country’s history, honoring the courage, resilience and sacrifices of Nigerians whose efforts enabled democratic governance.

According to the statement, the legacy of the heroes continues to inform the values and responsibilities of the Nigerian state, the government said.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving democratic ideals, including the rule of law, transparency, accountability and inclusive governance.
