The Nigerian Army’s 82 Division confirmed that on 9 June 2026 personnel from the Cameroonian Armed Forces entered the Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area, Cross River State, without authorization.

Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, said troops at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Danare reacted immediately after learning of the foreign presence. The soldiers contacted the relevant Cameroonian authorities, who then withdrew their forces from Nigerian territory in accordance with established border protocols.

"Consequently, the situation was swiftly contained without any further escalation," the statement read.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incursion was triggered by a dispute over levies collected on farmland between the Danare Community in Nigeria and the Dadi Community in Cameroon.

To strengthen diplomatic and military cooperation and build confidence, the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division has directed the Commander of the 13 Brigade to meet with his Cameroonian counterpart to discuss the incident further. "This initiative aims to bolster border coordination, clarify operational procedures along the boundary, and avert future incidents," the directive added.

The Division reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the security of all communities along the nation's borders within its Area of Operations.

"Residents of Danare and surrounding areas are assured that the situation is stable and entirely under control. Troops remain alert and continue to oversee border activities," the statement concluded.

The Army urged the public to remain calm, continue lawful activities, and refrain from spreading unverified information that could create unnecessary tension.
