The Nigerian Army announced that it had rescued five people who had been kidnapped in Kogi State. The victims were freed after terrorists fled while being pursued by military forces in the region.
The announcement came from Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, on Wednesday.
The rescue followed a series of intensified military operations, including air strikes and ground assaults on terrorist camps located in forested areas of Kogi.
Abdullahi said the victims were liberated because of the sustained pressure applied to criminal elements operating in the area.
He added that troops from the Forward Operating Base in Oshokoshoko were sent to block the Oshokoshoko–Adankolo route within Adankolo Forest after a recent air interdiction mission targeted a known terrorist enclave.
During the operation, soldiers encountered five kidnapped victims who had been left behind by their captors as the terrorists fled from advancing military forces.
The Army spokesman noted that preliminary investigations suggest the kidnappers abandoned the victims after their camps came under intense pressure from ongoing military operations.
This pressure forced members of the criminal group to disperse in different directions in an attempt to evade capture.
