Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by suspected terrorists in Surimi, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which borders Sokoto State.

The army said that the troops rescued four individuals who had been kidnapped, with no casualties reported among the troops.

In a statement released on X, the army indicated that the operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence suggesting that armed terrorists were engaging in kidnapping activities in the region.

The statement noted that, acting swiftly on this information, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Unashi quickly mobilized to the area to restrict the terrorists’ movements.

Upon arrival, the troops encountered the terrorists and engaged them using superior firepower.

“Faced with the troops’ overwhelming response, the terrorists abandoned the four kidnapped individuals and fled into the nearby bush,” the statement elaborated.

“The rescued individuals were later reunited with their families.”

Military officials confirmed that there were no casualties among the troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA during this operation, highlighting it as yet another example of the troops’ dedication to safeguarding lives and addressing insecurity in the North-West.
