Nigeria seeks partnership with China to develop power infrastructure

Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, met with Nigeria’s Minister of Power and Director‑General of the Nigeria‑China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe, to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as electricity, infrastructure, and industrial development.

The meeting, held on Thursday, was intended to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries and to identify opportunities for deeper collaboration in areas considered essential for Nigeria’s economic growth and modernization agenda.

During the talks, Ambassador Yu congratulated Tegbe on his recent appointment as Minister of Power and praised his efforts to strengthen ties between Nigeria and China under the Nigeria‑China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.

The Chinese envoy reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to working with Nigeria to implement the outcomes of the recent Forum on China‑Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit and other agreements reached by the leaders of both countries.

He highlighted the importance of continued cooperation in energy, power infrastructure, and development projects as part of efforts to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

According to the ambassador, increased engagement in these sectors would promote economic growth and deliver tangible benefits to the citizens of both nations.

In response, Tegbe reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to strengthening its relationship with China, describing the Asian country as a vital development partner. He thanked China for its support of Nigeria’s socio‑economic development over the years.

The minister also pledged to deepen collaboration with the Chinese Embassy and relevant Chinese institutions to advance practical initiatives in priority sectors, including electricity infrastructure, manufacturing, and modern agricultural development.
