Nigeria has added another major continental event to it’s growing international sports calendar after securing the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Beach Games Championship.

This was confirmed in a statement by the National Sports Commission (NSC) on their official X handle on Friday.

“The hosting rights were announced by the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), Mustapha Berraf, during his visit to the National Sports Commission Headquarters in Abuja.

“The championship will be staged in Lagos and is another significant step in the National Sports Commission’s strategy of using major international competitions to grow Nigeria’s sports economy, strengthen sports tourism, create opportunities for athletes and businesses, and position the country as one of Africa’s leading destinations for global sporting events.

“The announcement follows Nigeria’s recent confirmation as host of the 2027 African School Games in Abuja, with discussions also progressing on the possibility of bringing Africa’s Olympic qualification events to Nigeria ahead of the 2030 Olympic Games.”
