Nigeria’s national grid will get an additional 220 megawatts of electricity.
This comes as the Transmission Company of Nigeria formally granted access to Mainstream Energy to commence Kainji Hydro Power Plant switchyard units 1G3.
TCN disclosed this in a statement by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, on Sunday.
It said the site handover was conducted on Friday, 5 June 2026.
According to the federal government’s agency, the physical handover of the 2x330kV bays’ construction site is intended to facilitate the start of construction activities, including civil, electrical, and mechanical works as well as testing, commissioning, and all other approved project tasks.
“After completion, the 220MW-capacity bays will enable the evacuation of the two additional IG3 and IG4 turbines with the capacity to generate 110MW each, totaling 220MW, which are to be installed in Kainji power station,” TCN stated.
